Stop the Massacre Law Turkey

Give Turkey’s dogs their future back

A silent catastrophe is unfolding in Turkey. Since the introduction of the Massacre Law, thousands of healthy dogs are taken from the streets and placed in state-run shelters. In these killing stations, they are either killed or left without medical care. Returning them to their original location is strictly forbidden. Entire packs disappear behind closed doors. Turkish animal rescuers are desperate.

We have witnessed the suffering with our own eyes. That is why we are taking action.

Make your voice count - sign the petition and urge the Turkish government to repeal the Massacre Law immediately.

Save the Pawties

Figures

The Massacre Law is causing unprecedented animal suffering in Turkey.

There are no official numbers on the exact amount of dogs killed. However, available data from the Turkish government and international animal rights organisations show the following shocking facts (May 2026):

Population

Before the Massacre Law, at least 4 million dogs lived in Turkey.

Since the law was introduced, 975,000 - 1.2 million dogs have been removed from the streets, 25% of the entire population.

Capacity

Turkey has around 300 shelters with approximately 100,000 spaces. More than 1 million dogs have been taken from the streets. The Massacre Law forbids returning them.
Where have they gone?

Impact

Due to the enormous shortage of shelter space and the ban on returning dogs, hundreds of thousands have died or been killed. The Massacre Law is causing unprecedented suffering among Turkey’s dogs.
